Blackjack is a card game primarily played in casinos across the world. It is also known as Twenty-One, since the aim of the game is to collect cards with numbers that add up to a total of 21.
The player makes a bet before the game begins. The dealer then gives two cards each to himself and the player. The player adds the numbers on these two cards together. Since the aim is to reach 21, or as near as possible without exceeding it, the player can choose to either stick with the two cards they have or ask for more in order to bring the total up. If at any point they exceed 21, they lose the game and the dealer takes his money. If they reach 21 or close to 21, they “stick” and the dealer begins to look at his cards and either “sticks” or takes more as he sees fit. If the dealer can reach a total closer to 21 than the player, he wins. If the dealer’s cards exceed 21, his hand of cards is “bust” and the player wins.
In casinos the game is a little more complicated because the dealer may be playing against several players at the same time. Although in essence Blackjack is a game of chance some players may make the game more tactical by using mathematical strategies. This means that they will be able to predict which card will be dealt next and know whether they should take it or stick. Using these strategies is very difficult and can lead to a life long ban if the player is caught using them by the casino. Often, casinos will use more than one pack of cards on the Blackjack table in order to make this more difficult.
With online gambling becoming increasingly popular it is easier to have a game of Blackjack at home rather than at a casino. Some websites allow free gaming with no betting just for fun, whereas others allow bets to be placed as if in a real game. There are also opportunities to play against other people rather than simply versus a computer, which allows for a more interactive and sociable experience.
